ongoing project; glass poems
I am working on glass poems as a new visual form for poetry, drawing on the refractive and contemplative counterglow
of stained glass and its texts. To be used by renters and in precarious circumstances rather than installed, the works are designed to be propped up against shelving units and windows. Like how poems themselves can be alternative spaces of perception, glass poems can be placed against different backgrounds and lights, bringing different temporalities and readings to the texts. The works consider also writing as a form of drawing, and can be arranged in overlapping rows, creating mutable and ongoing texts. As contemplative forms that transform surfaces like lichens, they add complexity to urban environments while remaining ephemeral and fragile.
